Billy Kuhn Obituary

This obituary was written by Mr. Kuhn in 2017

Billy G. Kuhn, age 92 of Russell Springs, Kentucky, departed this life on September 4, 2019. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Mary Upton Kuhn born to them on July 18, 1927 in Willis Point, Texas.

Billy faithfully served his country in the United States Army for twenty years. He served in multiple armored units during that time. He served three tours of duty in Germany, two tours in Korea and one tour in Japan. He returned on September 30, 1965, having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, E8.  

He was always happy to share details about the knowledge and experiences of his military years. Billy also spoke with pride about his brother L.W.'s military experiences of serving on an aircraft carrier during World War II.

After their military service, Billy and and L.W. worked together raising cattle and farming the field near their homes in Russell County.

Billy returned home to the welcome of his family and sweetheart, Lura McGowan, on December 17, 1966 Billy and Lura united in marriage. They spent 44 wonderful years together as best friends and help mates. Both shared with fondness their teamwork on the farm; the enjoyed vacations and shopping trips as well as time they just spent together. The were together until the end, with Billy faithfully staying close to her bedside until time for their last goodbye.

Billy trusted Christ as his personal savior and was a member of Coffey Chapel Methodist Church for many years. After moving, he and Lura attended Mount Hope Baptist Church. His Church attendance and leadership was an important part of Billy's life.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lura, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, L.W. Kuhn and a nephew, Craig Johnson along with many other family member and dear friends. It was these memories of good times spent together that Billy shared with those he met.

Billy is survived by his great-niece Linda and her husband Ed Cook of Somerset, KY, who provided emotional support and overall assistance with his care.It was this consistency that allowed him to live his last years in comfort and contentment.

He is also survived by his other great nieces, Sandra Harris of Somerset, KY,. Melaine (Rick) Holt, Machille (Billy) Hale, Connie (Mark) Robertson all of Russell Springs. A niece Teresa (Steve) Bledsoe of Russell Springs, KY and two nephews, Richard Kuhn of Harrodsburg, KY and Gary Kuhn of Russell Springs, KY.

The funeral services will be held on Thursday September 5, 2019 at 3:00 PM with Billy's pastor and good friend, Rev. Randy Brown presiding. Interment will follow in the Parks Ridge Cemetery in Parks Ridge, KY with full military honors.

Visitation will be after 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2019

Pallbearers will be Ed Cook, Billy Hale, Lee Holt, Mark Robertson, Rick Holt and Limmy McGowan.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a contribution to the Russell County Honor Guard, POB 567 Russell Springs, KY 42642
