Ruel Oakes, age 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, March 17 2023 at Russell County Hospital.

He was born on Friday, October 16 1936, in Russell Springs, Kentucky.

He was the son of:
Mother - Lorene Crockett Oakes
Father - Junie Oakes

Wife - Margaret Oakes of Russell Springs, KY

1 Daughter:

Karen May, spouse Greg, of Russell Springs KY

1 Son:

Bobby Oakes, spouse Sherry, of Russell Springs KY.

2 Sisters:

Gila Gaskins, spouse Dean, of Louisville KY

Reva Richardson, spouse Darrell, of Louisville KY

1 Brother:

Dewell Oakes, spouse Jodie, of Columbia KY

He is also survived by three grandsons, Kelby (Savanah) Barnett, Zac Oakes, (Brenna Posey), Christian Helm and a granddaughter Brooke (Kyle) Kerney. Five great-grandchildren, Alex and Archer Oakes, Kai and Kalli Barnett and Saylor Kerney. A host of nieces and nephews and friends also survive Ruel was a long time employee of Alligator #2 (KOA). He loved doing work with his tractors and meeting and talking to people. Ruel was married to his wife Margaret Bray Oakes on August 24, 1963. Beside is parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Crabtree, brothers, Jim, Lilburn, Lewell, Joe and Marshall Oakes and one grandson, Dustin Trevor Oakes. Pallbearers: Kelby Barnett, Zac Oakes, Christian Helm, Jonathan Oakes, James Oakes and Stewart Davis.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, March 20 2023 at Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY.

Visitation will be 5-9 PM Sunday, March 19 2023 at Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY.

Interment will be in Holt Cemetery, HWY 1383, Russell Springs, KY.
