Veno was born on October 21, 1939 a son of the late Lula Mae West and James Popplewell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Glenn Popplewell.

He was of the Baptist faith and a retired school bus driver.

He is survived by 2 sons, Ronnie Popplewell (Teresa), of Russell Springs and Adrian Popplewell (Teresa Tarter) of Somerset, 3 grandchildren, Joshua Milton, Kari Ann and Nicolas James and a sister, Garmaleen Ivey of Jellico, TN.
